Sins of the Border: Hotter Than Arizona Politics

PHOENIX (May XX, 2010)-Local author, Leslie Kohler, has released her hot new book, "Sins of the Border." The novel is a politically timely murder mystery that puts a human face on the issue of immigration, while entertaining its readers. Kohler delicately balances levity with politics as she weaves a complex tale of murder and mayhem.

The novel follows the exploits of Lila Morrison, ex-newspaper reporter turned Scottsdale mom, as she tries to ignite her suburban life by jumping into the murder investigation—much to the chagrin of the hunky, but hard-headed Detective Garcia. And when Lila's best friend is fingered as a prime suspect, Lila infiltrates a violent vigilante group and risks her life to find the killer.

Leslie is a member of the humanitarian organization No Mas Muertes (No More Deaths), and has assisted in supplying water to remote areas north of the Mexican border. Growing up in rural northern California, and being a current Arizona resident, Leslie has witnessed the social and economic complexities of immigration—an issue pivotal to the plot of "Sins of the Border." "Sins of the Border" is a fast-paced mystery that follows the murder of a beloved local artist, known for her efforts to aid Hispanic immigrants, who is brutally murdered. Lila Morrison, a newspaper reporter turned suburban housewife, instantly finds herself immersed in the case, as her best friend is pinpointed as the number one suspect. Scottsdale as she knows it — a desert oasis and tourist destination — becomes a hotbed for mystery and murder. Determined to clear her friend, Lila dusts off her press pass and sets out to find the culprit. In the story, Lila goes head-to-head with the hard-headed Detective Garcia, who is none too happy with her snooping. She pushes ahead, using her investigative skills and advice from her three feisty girlfriends over flavored martinis, to follow the bloody murder trail. "Sins of the Border" leaves readers wondering if Lila finds the murderer before her friend is imprisoned, or worse, if the killer finds Lila first.
